Gary Carter 1954 - 2012

This week we will not have a "Sunday Morning Coffee" but instead will leave this post open for fans to post all the memories of Gary Carter in our comments section.

  1. Gary Carter was my favorite baseball player when I was a kid, and I was excited when he was named manager of the Long Island Ducks for 2009 because I'd finally have the chance to meet him.

He took time to shake hands, pose for photos and sign autographs when I saw him in Newark, making fans happy and creating memories. He did disappoint a few people with his policy of requesting a charity donation to sign any major league baseball memorabilia, but most older fans were happy to do it.

For kids (and adults, if they asked nicely), Carter had pre-signed Long Island Ducks cards that he handed out... and I remember Carter 'finding' some Atlantic League baseballs to sign for kids who didn't have the money.
