Matt Esquivel has signed with the Monclova Acereros in the Mexican League (AAA).
Esquivel was a key of the Ducks 2004 Liberty Division Championship team. He played two seasons for the Ducks from 2010-2011, where he had a .301 batting average with 32 home runs, 147 RBI, and 18 stolen bases in 219 games. He was named to the 2011 Atlantic League All-star team, and won the 2011 Atlantic League All-star Home Run Derby.
Matt was one of my favorite Ducks. He was always willing to stop and chat, and made him self accessible to fans. He's also a great baseball player who has 5-tool talent, and caught some bad breaks earlier in his minor league career. I'm glad to see he's getting a chance to play at level that will hopefully get him to the major leagues. I know all fans wish Matt the best of luck next season.
