The Long Island Ducks announced that they have have signed former major league pitcher Gustavo Chacin for the 2012 season.
Chacin signed as an undrafted free agent with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1998. In 2004, he was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Year after posting a 16-2 record with a 2.86 ERA for New Hampshire, and was also promoted to the major leagues. He had two wins in 2 games with a 2.32 ERA for the Blue Jays that season. Chacin played five seasons in the major leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays (2004 to 2007) and Houston Astros (2010), posting a 27-17 record with a 4.23 ERA. Last season, he split time between the Astros Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City and the Mets Triple-A affiliate Buffalo.
