The Long Island Ducks announced on Friday that they have signed pitchers Jason Monti and Joe Esposito for the 2012 season.
Jason Monti was a 25th round (77th overall) selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft out of Sacred Heart University. He pitched two seasons in the Blue Jays organization, and had a 9-1 record with a 4.42 ERA in 75 innings pitched. In 2009, he had a 7-7 record with a 4.25 ERA in 101.2 innings pitched for the Rockford RiverHawks of the Frontier League(IND). Monti pitched with the Somerset Patriots in 2010, and went 5-6 with a 3.77 ERA. Last season, Monti signed with the Long Island Ducks and had 1-1 record with a 3.00 ERA in 30 innings pitched.
Joe Esposito was originally signed by the Baltimore Orioles as an undrafted free agent in 2007 out of New York Tech. He pitched three seasons in the Orioles organization. In 2010, he signed with the Long Island Ducks and had a 3-4 record with a 2.98 in 48.1 innings pitched. However, On July 13, 2010, Espostio signed with the Philadelphia Phillies organization, and was assigned to Lakewood (A). He pitched only 14.1 innings for Lakewood before being promoted to Clearwater (A+) in the Florida State League. Last season, Esposito split time between Clearwater (A+) and Reading (AA) in the Phillies organization.
